Godwin Mercado Grand Opening Brings Community Together

On August 16, 2025, the City of Wyoming celebrated the grand opening of Godwin Mercado with a ribbon-cutting ceremony, free food, and family-friendly fun.

The event kicked off with remarks from Wyoming Mayor Kent Vanderwood and Michigan State Representative John Fitzgerald, followed by speeches from U.S. Representative Hillary Scholten, Parks and Recreation Director Krashawn Martin, and Community and Economic Development Director Nicole Hofert. City Council members and local stakeholders then joined together to officially cut the ribbon and launch the day’s festivities.

Community members explored the new facility, mingled with neighbors, and enjoyed treats from Lindo Mexico, Kona Ice, Runyon Roasts, and Mitten Floral. The Grand Rapids Children’s Museum and Kent District Library hosted kids’ play areas, while live music from Mark Sala added to the festive atmosphere.
